1. Initial Enquiry/Referral
Our patients are most often referred to us from their general dentist, who feel that braces might be suitable for them. But we also see lots of people who contact us through their own line of enquiry via our website, social media or ‘word of mouth’ from an existing patient.
Our team of fully qualified, experienced and friendly staff will make an initial consultation appointment which is mutually convenient to both patient and orthodontist. These appointments are confirmed 24 hours before via text message or telephone call.
2. The first orthodontic visit
On your first visit, one of our Specialist orthodontists will gather clinical records, take digital photographs and x-rays which will be used to demonstrate the brace treatments available and best suited to each individual need. During this appointment we will also establish from the patients what their concerns are and what expectations they have of our specialists and the practice.
3. Treatment planning and decision
Our specialist orthodontists at the practice usually prefer the adult patients to make a second appointment, this will allow them time to gather additional information. This will ensure they give a clear and concise brace treatment plan to suit your individual needs and have time to prepare a full report which you receive with costs and options so you are able to take the information away and make the informed decision in the comfort of your own home. We always send a full report of your visit to your general dentist so they are also kept informed.
4. Types of appliance
There are various types of braces available to our patients. For adult patients, the choice of appliance is decided between the orthodontist and patient with each individual special requirement taken into consideration. There is the cosmetic impact for our patients so we’ll also discuss if invisible or hidden braces are suitable for your needs. For braces on the outside, we use ceramic clear brackets and tooth coloured wires.
5. Oral Hygiene
A good standard of oral health is crucial even before we begin a course of orthodontic treatment. We pride ourselves in giving every patient full instructions and demonstrations once the brace has been fitted and we expect everyone to maintain excellent levels of oral hygiene throughout.
6. Treatment process
Your first appointment will give us the opportunity to answer any further questions and take records of the position of your teeth before treatment starts. You will be given an estimate of the likely time for the whole treatment. Patients are normally seen every 6 weeks by the same orthodontist.
7. Removing braces and fitting retainers
Most patients are fitted with permanent lower bonded retainer as well as a clear removable retainer to be worn at night. Remember – retention is an extremely important part of your orthodontic treatment.
8. After care and treatment guarantee
We review patients for 2 years after brace removal but are happy for you to contact us if you have any concerns or queries after this period.
